Plan Submittals

NEW! Effective January 1, 2023, all permit applications and  plan reviews must be submitted digitally. Paper plans/applications will not be accepted.

The following is intended to guide the applicant how to apply for a fire permit or plan review:

Plan Submittal Application
  1. Download and complete the Plan Submittal Application PDF Document.
  2. Submit plans and the completed application in PDF format to planreview@rossvalleyfire.org
    • Include supporting documentation when applicable:
      • Cut Sheets and Calculations
      • Permit Applications (from Towns or County)
      • Documentation of application Fees (from Towns or County)
  3. Fire fees will be invoiced and sent to the applicant through SQUARE. Fees will be due at time of invoice.
    • The minimum permit fee is listed in our current Fee Schedule.  These fees are the minimum charge for a typical application.  Additional charges may apply for large projects and re-inspections, or failures to comply, which result in additional inspections
  4. Once the review is completed and fees collected, plans with conditions will be returned to the applicant via email. 
  5. Approved plans and conditions of approval shall be readily available on-site for all inspections.

Applications for the Town of Ross or the Town of San Anselmo

  • When submitting applications to the Town of Ross and the Town of San Anselmo also submit the following:
    • A completed RVFD Plan Submittal Form.
    • One set of architectural or engineered blue line drawings (wet-stamped and signed).
    • The minimum plan review fee is set forth in the current Fee Schedule (fees include a plan submission, plan review & single inspection).
    • These fees are the minimum charge for a typical application. Additional charges may apply for large projects and re-inspections, or failures to comply, which result in additional inspections.
  • Residential or Commercial Construction Projects typically require a minimum of 2 hours.
    • Fees are due at the time of plan submittal and the accepted methods of payment include:

Applications for the Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District or the Town of Fairfax

  • Projects in the Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District and the Town of Fairfax must first be date stamped by the building department and the applicant must complete a building department cover sheet. In addition to these items, please submit to the RVFD Administrative Office:
    • A completed RVFD Plan Submittal Form.
    • Two sets of architectural or engineered blue line drawings (wet-stamped and signed) with a building department date stamp.
    • For projects in Sleepy Hollow, a Fire Jurisdiction Transmittal Form provided by the Marin County Building Division.
    • The minimum plan review fee is set forth in the current Fee Schedule (fees include a plan submission, plan review & single inspection).
    • These fees are the minimum charge for a typical application. Additional charges may apply for large projects and re-inspections, or failures to comply, which result in additional inspections.
    • Residential or Commercial Construction Projects require a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Fees are due at the time of plan submittal and the accepted methods of payment include:
  • Expected turnaround time is 10 business days, there is no over-the-counter review.
  • Applicant will be notified by phone when plan review comments are ready. For the Town of Fairfax and the Sleepy Hollow Fire Protection District completed plans can be picked-up at RVFD Administrative Office. For the Town of Ross and the Town of San Anselmo, Ross Valley Fire Department comments are routed to the Town Building Department, who will then notify applicants.
