Ross Valley Fire Department and FIRESafe MARIN Partner on Chipper to Reduce Wildfire Hazard

Ross Valley Fire Department received delivery of a new Vermeer 1000XL Chipper Wednesday, October 8, 2014.  Purchased in partnership with FIRESafe MARIN, the chipper will support hazardous vegetation removal, with an immediate emphasis on reducing fuels and reducing wildfire threat in the Wildland/Urban Interface (WUI).  

Ross Valley Fire Department firefighters received training, and will operate the chipper in support of vegetation management programs available to all residents of San Anselmo, Fairfax, Ross, and Sleepy Hollow.  Residents of all Marin communities will have access to this chipper through FIRESafe MARIN's Chipper Program beginning immediately during the 2014 fire season.

A specialized chipper truck will support the unit, and a comprehensive program for supporitng community fuel reduction efforts is in development.
