Ross Valley Fire Department strives to provide answers to the most frequently asked questions by residents and visitors to the Ross Valley.  If you feel that information is missing from our site, or have a question that is not answered here, please email us.

Is RVFD hiring?

RVFD utilizes FIRE to provide lists for possible candidates for hiring.  Their website is www.firehire.com and is updated as information changes.  All pertinent information can be found on their website.

How do I apply for a job?

Ross Valley Fire Department hires new firefighters who have completed the FIREHIRE employment registry process.  Employment opportunities, job openings, and application announcements are made through FIREHIRE.  If you have completed the FIREHIRE registry and examination process, and have been notified of an employment opportunity at Ross Valley Fire Department, you may download the required application materials here.

Where can I bring my household batteries for Battery Recycling?

All of our fire stations have blue cans designated for battery recycling in our lobby.  There is one in the Fairfax Town Hall/Police Station lobby and the Redhill CVS Pharmacy as well.  In addition, most fire departments throughout Marin county participate in the program as well.

My neighbor has weeds that may be a fire hazard. Who do I contact to request an inspection?

You can call 415-258-4686 and provide the information (anonymously if you would like) to the department and a Fire Captain will make an inspection of the property.

Or you can “click here” to provide us (anonymously if you would like) with the information and we will investigate the possible hazard.

Is it okay to burn leaves and/or trash?

No, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, as well as the Fire Code, prohibits burning anything outdoors within our jurisidiction.

Are fireworks legal in Marin County?

No, ALL FIREWORKS are illegal in Marin County, including so called "safe and sane" and model rocket engines.

Why is my smoke detector “chirping”?

Smoke detectors are designed to emit a “chirp” every few minutes when the battery is low.  This is a warning that the battery should be replaced immediately.

What do I do with old gasoline/oil/paint or household hazardous waste that I don’t use?

It can be brought to the Marin Resource and Recovery Center, 535 Jacoby St. San Rafael.  415-456-2601.

Do you get cats of out trees/telephone poles/roofs?

No.  You can try putting food out for the cat and it will come down.  Or you can contact the Marin Humane Society at 415-883-4621 for more suggestions/information and assistance.

Who do I call about fire extinguisher problems or servicing them?

Check the Yellow Pages under Fire Extinguishers.  Most companies are mobile and will come to your home or business.  If you would like to dispose of your old fire extinguishers, they can be brought to the Marin Resource and Recovery Center, 535 Jacoby St. San Rafael.  415-456-2601.

Where can I get my blood pressure checked?

At our main station any time between 8:00am and 8:00pm.  At our Sleepy Hollow or Fairfax Station after 5:00pm or whenever the engine and personnel are in quarters.

Where can I get CPR Certified?

Check our website under Public Education for the latest schedule of citizen CPR classes.  These classes are not for Health Care Providers.

How do I get a copy of a report?

All requests must be in writing to the department.  Please send the request with the date and location of the incident.  You can also come to our headquarters station at 777 San Anselmo Ave., and request one in person.  It usually takes approximately one week to send out the report.  There is no charge for the report.
