2012 CPR Class Schedule Updated

Ross Valley Fire Department has released their 2012 CPR Class Schedule.

Public “HeartSaver CPR” from the American Heart Association are offered several times each year at Fire Station 21, in Fairfax.

Students will learn how to perform CPR and how to relieve airway obstructions or choking in adults, children and infants. The class is geared for non-health care professionals who want to be ready in case of an emergency.  This class is not for healthcare professionals.

9/11 Monument Dedicated September 11, 2011

Ross Valley Fire Department dedicated a monument to the victms of the 9/11 attacks September 11, 2011. Made from a piece of steel recovered from the World Trade Center, the monument was erected by Ross Valley firefighters and volunteers with funding provided by the Ross Valley Firefighter's Club.

The ceremony was atended by more than 200 residents and visitors, as well as uniformed firefighters, police officers, and airline personnel from American and United airlines.

The Ross Valley Fire Department has obtained a piece of steel recovered from one of the World Trade Center's twin towers and is using it to create a monument to those who died on 9/11.

The concrete and stucco monument that will house the relic will be unveiled during a dedication ceremony at 9:11 a.m. Sept. 11, the 10th anniversary of the tragic event. The monument will be placed permanently at the entrance to the Ross Valley fire station at 777 San Anselmo Ave. in San Anselmo.

Carbon Monoxide Detectors: New State Law

A new state law goes into effect on July 1st, requiring all California homeowners with an attached garage or fossil fuel source to install a carbon monoxide detector.  Follow this link and read the article for information from the State Fire Marshals Office.

According to CalFire, 90% of all California homes are without carbon monoxide detectors, a device that saves lives. Fuel fired appliances, such as cooking stoves, heaters, and gas dryers can produce this odorless gas without the homeowner knowing it. When these appliances aren’t working properly, they can give off deadly amounts of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless, so it’s easy to ignore the warning signs.
